COLORS~
Calvin is three years old. He's a precocious little fellow, with golden hair and bright eyes and LOTS of words! It was almost surreal how early on he could talk, like you'd be carrying him in a pouch on your belly and he'd be holding a conversation with the person in line next to you at the grocery store. I was so charmed by his voice that I decided to include him in my latest recording project, COLORS. You'll hear his cute little voice on each song. I recorded them on my

A BIRTH - A WEDDING - AND LOTS OF SONGS
Hi all! It's been pouring rain here. I mean REALLY pouring. The kind of rain from my childhood in Pennsylvania! It's probably Mother Nature's way of apologizing for a wimpy Utah winter. So we are looking forward to summer, not only for the sunshine, but for the music we get to play! Besides water, the heavens have poured upon us two great blessings this past week. Both gave me cause to sing. First was a spontaneous lullaby originally sung by my mother for all of her grandch

GONE GOLD
BLOWING KISSES - Lullabies & Little Love Songs, has received the highest recognition possible from the Parents' Choice Foundation for 2015. That shiny GOLD medallion found on books, toys, furniture, recordings…just about anything having to do with the well being of children, has been awarded to our newest recording, and we couldn't be more tickled! Every year at holiday or birthday time I have looked for items that have been recognized by this trusted non-profit organization

SLEEP
At this moment the tiny child of a dear friend is having brain surgery. And down in California the child of another is trying to figure out why her hair has fallen out and what "chemotherapy" means. All this, while we await the birth of a new grandchild, and blow kisses to Meg whose baby will come to a momma without a momma. Blowing Kisses, the song, was written for Cindy, Meg's mom. I'll write sometime about the creation of that song. But for now I am thinking about what my

Deck Da Halls
The holidays get crazy around here. I know, it's that way for most people. And they sneak in before we have even thought of closing the door on summer. Our local grocery store had Christmas up before watermelons were out of season. They were still selling patio furniture out front. We were in short sleeved shirts, and hadn't even pulled the summer flowers out of the flower beds in the yard, when candy canes and uber-cinnamony scented pinecones greeted us at the entrance to Smi

FYI
I'm cautious of posting on my website too often, because if you are a follower I am sensitive to the bulk of mail that ends up in email boxes and I don't want to be a bother. So I'm not one who posts every week like my web advisor suggests. On the other hand, when there's news, I want to share it. So here's the news. The Dec 8th Holiday Concert in Farmington is sold out. It only seats 300, so it was a rather small venue to begin with. So if you were planning to attend in Dece

Studio Time
It is rare, I know, to have such an opportunity as I have had; to be surrounded by amazing musicians at the top of their craft and artistry, to be in a space designed and dedicated to capturing the best of music from the best musicians, to be able to create what my heart wants to say in a soothing way…all this comes to life for me in Metro Studios, with my good friend Mark Stephenson at the helm. I am old enough, and hopefully wise enough, to understand the uniqueness of this

Zzzzzz!
Through the years one of the most common comments I get from "fans"is this: My kids go to sleep to your music every night." I am really happy that my tunes don't scare people. But I also worry that if anyone listens in their cars they might doze off and…. Since I'm sort of skilled at singing people to sleep…including years of Young Women at Girls Camp…I've decided to make a LULLABY ALBUM. I'm inviting the rest of you to come into the bedrooms of my darling grandchildren while

Lent Writing 2014
Though I am not Catholic, I do believe in the sacredness of the Holy season, leading Christians to the most sacred of holidays, Easter. Each year I make a commitment to write for each day of Lent, the season of sacrifice. I publish my writing on my blog, www.coriconnors.blogspot.com. You're welcome to take a gander. This year I use a random word pulled from a Random Word Generator on the internet. I use the word as a jumping-off place for my writing exercises. A couple years

Creative Juices
I so adore the holiday season. I love the colors, and the lights, and the frenetic energy, and the peaceful moments in front of the fire. And I savor the opportunity to sing music that speaks my heart. The beauty of Thanksgiving and Christmas, in the sense of performing, is I make no apologies for singing about the most tender and meaningful things in my personal life. It's basically what anyone would get at any of my performances any time of the year, since I hope the songs

Tis the Season
Who doesn't love finding out that people want to come hear them when they have something to say? I don't profess to be a great singer, or performer for that matter. I think what I do is talk with pitch, and that's what I have to share. A casual family room type conversation what happens to be wrapped in music. The folks at Farmington City called this morning to tell me our three shows are SOLD OUT. This should make me happy. And it does, until I start getting calls from peopl

Is it too early to put up Christmas lights?
I admit it, I have criticized in the past. I have clicked my tongue against the roof of my mouth and pursed my eyebrows, tossing my head back ever so slightly, culminating in a judgmental shake with the whisper of these words falling from my lips: "Seriously," says I, "can't we at least wait till the leaves fall and the kids have made their handprint turkeys in elementary school before we get bombarded with Christmas hype?" And yet, here I am, on the band-sleigh with commerci

Seasons Change
Autumn is such a beautifully confusing time. All in one Saturday afternoon we pulled perfectly good summertime flowers from our flower beds, knowing the frost is coming and our yard work time is limited. Then we loaded the grandkids in the car and trucked on down Main Street to the pumpkin patch, where the kids all picked pumpkins to carve. There are seven orange creations out on the kitchen island now, and a large red bowl of pumpkin seeds soaking in brine. The kitchen tab

Welcome Warmth!
from my front porch Welcome warmth! And a hearty farewell to old man winter! Welcome bare feet and cool green grass and whispering breezes and flowering bulbs of spring. I do appreciate winter of its snuggle down-ness, and for the lovely contrast it sets up for springtime. The bleak midwinter makes the splash of color in summer so vibrant. Yay for 4 seasons! This summer is full of musical delights for me, starting this Memorial Day weekend at the SCANDINAVIAN FESTIVAL in

Welcome 2013!
OK, I should be taking down the tree. Epiphany has come and gone, and the city will be picking up spent Christmas trees at the curbside on Saturday, so unless I want an 8 foot evergreen lying sideways in the front yard until spring cleanup, I'd better get moving. We had a swirly holiday; joy and pleasure mixed with tears and various illnesses. We missed my mom desperately. Christmas without a mom feels unnatural. But we took joy in the little ones, and in the visit of our H

FAME!
Our little family at the Governor's Mansion Artist Award, 2012. A few years back, Dave and I went to pay our respects to a deceased friend at one of our local funeral homes in the neighboring town of Kaysville, UT. It was pouring rain as we walked out of the building. I found myself huddled with two other women under a small awning, waiting for our husbands to bring our cars around and save our hair from the torrential downpour. We stood there face to face, we three stranger

the uber-talented Kelly DeHaan The fresh layer of snow in the yard makes it much easier to get in the spirit of the upcoming season. That, and an afternoon harmonizing with some of my favorite people. Mark Robinette and I spent a couple delightful hours yesterday at the piano of th amazing Kelly DeHaan, working up harmonies and arrangements for the upcoming concerts. Talk about beautiful voices! I am so excited to dress my tunes, old and new ones, with the voices of Mark, Ke

Christmastime is Coming
I know, I know. It's crazy to talk about Christmas coming when we haven't even carved our Jack-O-Lanterns yet! Forgive me, please. Forgive me, also, for my web-absence. It's been a difficult summer and we are trying to re-group emotionally for the coming season. Thank you for your tenderness and understanding at this time of loss for our family. With the changing of the seasons I look forward to good things. Dave and I spent this past weekend with 85 amazing artists from a
