CANDLELIGHT CHRISTMAS CONCERT

I'm a lover of light. The kind that flickers with warmth on a wintry day. The sense of safety a candle in the window offers weary travelers. Even the crackle of a campfire, or the dance of flames in the deep rock fireplace against the wall in our Family Room. The more life I live, the more I cherish these simple gifts. Even now, before bed at night, I will flip the lightswitch off in our bathroom and strike a wooden match, holding the flame up in the darkness and watching it burn itself down, a stream of smoke rising in circles above it. Every time I think of my mom, who did the same when I was little. When I started thinking about doing a more “grand" Christmas concert, it felt natural to me to add light. 1,000 flames, to be exact. And it felt natural to put those candles in the setting of a grand old church, a place of sanctuary, especially as we recover from worldwide pandemics, civil unrest, and other tragedies beyond our control. And since I already have the most incredible talents of Mark Robinette and Kelly DeHaan on my team, I thought we should add string to our songs, because I knew Mark could write the most gorgeous arrangements. And Kelly, the master of choral works, would not only corral the best talent of Herriman Utah’s young adults, but he could write amazing choral arrangements to my songs. So there you have it; the recipe for musical magic. One night. In a grand old church. With not only the most gifted musicians, but the nicest people on earth. Trust me, you’ll feel their goodness. And hopefully you’ll feel my love. Thanks for many years of receiving what we have to offer these many years of Christmas concerts. I hope you will join us for this very special evening.
